ENVIRONMENT

At Philosofish, we aim to bring the freshest fish to every table across Europe, farmed in the most sustainable manner.

We believe that by investing in the health of our business, our community, our fish, and the environment in which we operate,
we will provide access to healthy living for millions of people globally.

We stand for a compassionate coexistence with nature and with all seas, for a healthier marine ecosystem and the highest product quality.

Philosofish is on a mission to invest in sustainable, higher-quality feed, which reduces industrial and agricultural food waste. Further, we seek to build land-based plants powered by renewable energy through advanced technology, effectively minimizing our carbon footprint.

The EU is aiming for a 55% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2030, and climate neutrality by 2050. Achieving these two in parallel means not increasing meat production, which uses 5.5x more freshwater and emits 8.5x greenhouse gases than alternative proteins, such as fish protein.

It is evident that aquaculture is the only industry that can solve this, providing low carbon, healthy and sustainable food for the 10 billion people who will inhabit the planet in 2050. We believe that Philosofish is uniquely positioned to take on this challenge through our innovative and sustainable practices in fish farming.

  1. This is a unique opportunity: our seas and oceans make up 70% of the Earth’s surface but provide only 2% of our calories.(Source: Our World in Data, Oxford University, 2019)
  2. The EU is the largest world importer of seafood, but only produces 30% of its needs, this discrepancy needs to be addressed (Source: The EU eats the world, WWF, 2022)
  3. 1KG of farmed beef vs 1KG of farmed fish: 39x the land required, 8.5x greenhouse gases emitted and 5.5x the fresh water utilised (Source: Our World in Data, Oxford University, 2019)
  4. The EU is aiming for a 55% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2030, and climate neutrality by 2050. Achieving these two in parallel means not increasing meat production, but instead meeting new demand with alternative protein sources, especially fish protein.
  5. We want to change how we fish our seas and oceans and help save the over fished species
